Franzen Industrie- und Gewerbebau GmbH carried out the construction of a retail park (usable area approx. 19,000 m²) on the former site of the Kertess company (An der Weide / Lehmweg) in the Südbahnhof area in Hanover.
The entire site of the Südbahnhof covers an area of about 15 hectares and was largely used as an inner-city commercial and industrial area after the 2nd World War. This included, among other things, the above-mentioned site.
Due to its former use as a chemical trade and storage facility, the site was known to have considerable contamination of groundwater and soil air by HCCs. The central area of the study area is enclosed by a sealing wall (so-called “sealing wall pot”), which serves to encapsulate the damaged area of the contaminated site from the surrounding area. Since remediation of the damage was disproportionate due to economic criteria, a security concept was developed by us in coordination with the authorities involved, which enabled the commercial use of the area.
For the planning and supervision of the building demolition, soil management, the expert support of the earthworks measures, in particular the necessary gas drainage, as well as for the health and safety coordination and the coordination of the explosive ordnance disposal measures, the contract was awarded to Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH.
The development area, including the associated development areas (parking lots, ancillary area and new access road), had a total size of approx. 6 ha.

- Planning of the renovation concept, planning of the structural requirements due to the development of a contaminated site with considerable pollutant emissions
- Planning of waste disposal and soil management, dewatering, tendering, expert supervision of the execution (based on HOAI-Lph. 1-9 Engineering Structures)
