DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:
The “Ittersbach” landfill in the district of Karlsruhe was sealed from 2004 to 2007 with a surface sealing system equivalent to TASi after final profiling.
The Ittersbach landfill is a landfill with an area of approx. 9.5 ha. The maximum elevation in the middle of the landfill is approx. 22 m. The slope inclinations to the edge are usually between 1:4 and 1:3.2; in the steep area on the northeast slope just under 1:3. In the years 1999 to 2003, approx. 330,000 t of profiling material were installed at the landfill to create uniform, defined gradient conditions.
The sealing system, which was applied between 2004 and 2007, consists of a gas drainage layer made of track ballast d=0.3 m, TRISOPLAST® layer d > 7.0 cm, plastic waterproofing membrane with BAM approval 2.5 mm, protective fleece 800 g/m², surface drainage made of melting chamber granules d= 0.3 m geotextile and recultivation soil d= 2.0 m.
Floor materials. To create the recultivation layer, the existing landfill was partially dismantled. To this end, the suitability of the materials of the landfill was examined in advance, especially with regard to the usable field capacity.
In the area of the steep embankment, the materials were compacted in the lower layers; in the area of the other areas, uncompacted paving was carried out with the caterpillar. The top layer of the recultivation layer was installed with a caterpillar with low soil pressure. To protect against erosion, sprayed greenery was applied and, in particularly endangered areas, erosion control mats. The landfill was planted with pioneer plants as a preforest.
Services performed by ICP:
Implementation of all planning services according to HOAI (LP 1 to LP 9), implementation of local construction management, preparation of safety and health protection plan and implementation of SiGeKo, preparation of quality assurance plan.
In addition to these services, the following services were carried out:
surveying of the landfill, regular observation of settlement levels, FID measurements to check the tightness of the surface sealing, carrying out control monitoring for mineral building materials (profiling materials, gas drain layer, waterproofing materials (Trisoplast), surface drainage and recultivation materials
Leachate storage tanks of 100 m³
Subsoil investigation for storage of the leachate storage tank
Invitation to tender for extraction test including awarding and monitoring of the extraction
Implementation of annual FID inspections
Soil science investigation to assess the suitability of the recultivation materials provided by the client from the dismantling of the Ittersbach
landfillImplementation of the entire recultivation planning in cooperation with the office Mailänder Consult Karlsruhe
The engineering services were classified in Zone III below according to HOAI. For the delivery of contaminated materials with refunds, chargeable costs were agreed.
